The doctor prescribed Matthew something called Fluconazole. "Definition of Diflucan (fluconazole): Diflucan® is an anti-fungal antibiotic that is prescribed to treat fungus infections in any part of the body. Diflucan® is often prescribed to treat fungal infections in people with weak immune systems. Diflucan® may be prescribed off-label for children with autism to help relieve their autism symptoms, based on the idea that autism symptoms may be related to fungus infections in children."
The doctor informed me that his wife would be getting in contact with me to discuss Matthew's bloodwork (which was taken that day) and some supplements to put him on. She ended up coming into the room as we were getting ready to leave!
After Matthew's blood work came back we discussed what type of supplements Matthew should be on. For now there are only a few, which i will name at the end of this post, but she said that she will be adding to the list as time goes on.. One step at a time! we want to see how Matthew reacts to these supplements first.
Matthew will be going back to see the Dr. on the 30th of this month and I will be sure to blog about how it goes. I feel so completely blessed to have found such wonderful people who are truly dedicated to helping children with autism and aspergers. I could not have asked for anything more.. I'm very excited for what's to come!
